Brief history of Age Concern Woodley
Woodley Age Concern provides services to care for, and support, older people in Woodley and the surrounding district.
The charity has been in existence for nearly 50 years, being formed on the 14th June 1962. Whilst initially it began as a luncheon club, opening our Day Centre in October 1973, services have developed and been re-shaped over the years.
Phase 2 of the Centre’s development began in October 1987 when we changed from a luncheon club to become a full day care centre.
In 2003 we again added even more facilities and our specialised dementia unit named Sunnyside was born.
We now engage with the active over 50s in the community and offer support for sufferers and carers of those with Alzheimers and dementia. This includes short breaks and respite day care. We also have day care provision for older people including those with disabilities, and we now provide day care for younger people with dementia of working age.
The core aim of the organisation is the provide high quality care for those who need it
